What is the Iris?
When people refer to the colour of the eyes, they are actually talking about the colour of the iris which is determined by the amount of pigment that it contains.
The iris is the colored part of the eye which surrounds the pupil and through its soft muscle dilation and contraction it manages the size of the pupil and also the light entering through it just like a camera diaphragm, for accurate visual perception.
During gestation in the mother's womb, the iris goes through a rapid tearing of its membrane and that is what makes it a unique piece of art that sometimes looks like the image of a galaxy, a nebula or like the unexplored landscape of a planet's surface. The right eye is different from the left eye and there is no other person with the same iris as yours. The fine details in the iris are best visible when they are magnified and are a result of different elements with names like contraction furrows, collagenous fibers, serpentine vasculature, coronas, striations, freckles, crypts, color, rifts, and pits.
